Retirement Living Breakfast: A new standard of service

The Property Council’s latest Retirement Living breakfast was held at MinterEllison’s offices on Wednesday 18 September.

The event brought together regulators and innovators to examine the retirement living industry’s rising standard of service.

Susan Francis, National Manager, QIP Accreditation Services – Quality Innovation Performance (QIP), provided an informative presentation on the new Australian Retirement Village Accreditation Scheme (ARVAS).

Mark Francis, Executive Director, Regulatory Services, Housing and Homelessness Services  – Department of Housing and Public Works, and Kirstine Harvie, Executive Director – Strategic Policy and Legislation, Housing, Homelessness and Sport – Department of Housing and Public Works both provided a presentation on the implementation of the Retirement Villages Act.

Following the presentations, a Q&A panel session was moderated by Tammy Berghofer, Special Counsel, Retirement Living and Real Estate – MinterEllison with the speakers and Kim Teudt, General Manager Retirement Living – Bluecare.

Guests heard the panel discuss the implementation of the retirement living code of conduct and how it is an integral part of ARVAS.  A number of questions were posed to the Department about the implementation of the Retirement Villages Act, including the adverse impacts from the introduction of the mandatory buyback provisions.

This event also saw the announcement of the Queensland Village Manager of the Year award for 2019, which was taken out by Lesley Carron – The Lakes Retirement Village – Lendlease. Lesley has worked tirelessly with all stakeholders both internally and externally, increasing the Villages Net Promoter Score and overall satisfaction results in the 2018 Resident Survey.  The other finalists were Jenny Ball – Aveo the Parks – Aveo, Tina Saunders – Cleveland and Wellington Manor – RetireAustralia, Colleen Taylor – IRT The Palms – IRT.

The Property Council would also like to thank all the speakers and moderator for their contribution to the event. Thanks also to MinterEllison for hosting the event.
