Retirement Living AchievementsBased on advocacy from the Property Council, the Commissioner for Consumer Protection has agreed to not introduce clause 22(3) into the Fair Trading (Retirement Villages) Code 2014, which dealt with the relevant criteria for assessing the refurbishment work that may be required to return residential premises to a reasonable condition.This marks just the latest of a list of results the Property Council has achieved for the retirement living industry in WA over the last two years. These include:Ongoing dialogue with the Minister and various staff in the Department of Commerce.Contributed to UWA survey on Tenures for Seniors Housing.Submission made to Policy Implications of an Aging Community.Property Council win against the Disallowance of Fees motion).Implementation of Retirement Villages Code and Section 14A delayed until April at request of Property Council.Submission made to Exposure Drafts and Refurbishment.Research project to provide evidence of savings for the government from the industry to lobby for more support to industry (proposal stage).Outlook Seminars (2013, 2014) with updates on RV Act 1999 and expert panel to fully explain the amendments.Introduction to Lifemark Accreditation Process with seminars to explain standards and process.Annual Retirement Living Conferences (2013 & 2014) successfully run.3 ½ day professional development seminars conducted successfully in WA in 2014 with more planned for 2015.Property Council offering Diploma in Village Management courses starting 2015.Development of Policy & Procedure Manual, launched in August 2014 to assist in accreditation process as well as lifting the game in village management thereby improving their reputation/image.2 morning tea sessions for village managers to network in 2014, with a brief presentation on a current topic of interest.Regular meetings with WAVRA on Property Council activities in the retirement living space.The next key event held by the Property Council for the sector will be the ‘Effective Communication with Retirement Village Residents’ Seminar.
