Retail trading reform passes

The Queensland Parliament has passed the Trading (Allowable Hours) Amendment Bill to reform retail trading across Queensland.

Earlier this year the Government announced its response to the recommendations of the retail trading hours review, committing to a significant overhaul of current regulations.  However, the subsequent Bill was withdrawn as the Government did not have the required support for the Bill to pass.

Last week’s Parliamentary sitting the Government introduced substantial amendments to the Bill and it has passed through Parliament.  The Bill replaces the current trading hours provisions with core trading hours for non-exempt (large) shops (in South East Queensland and outside South East Queensland).  A detailed breakdown of the changes can be found here.
