RETAIL-TAINMENT: THE FUTURE OF RETAIL IS THE CUSTOMER
The future of retail is the customer and at the moment the customer is dramatically evolving, an audience of over 100 guests were told at a Property Council cocktail event last week.
The cocktail event ‘Retail-tainment Revolution’ included a keynote presentation by Phil Schoutrop, Principal and Director/ Brisbane – Buchan. Phil provided an overview on how the landscape of retail is evolving and entertained the audience with international case studies of innovative retail outlets, concepts and products.
This was followed by a panel discussion with industry experts Dean Perry, Head of Property – Funlab, Mitchell Price, Head of Government Strategy and Policy, Asia Pacific at Lime – Lime Scooter and Phil Schoutrop, Principal and Director/ Brisbane – Buchan.
Dean Perry from Funlab gave an overview on projects Funlab are working on nationally.
“Our mothership, which we have opened two of, one in Sydney and one in Melbourne and one to open soon at Toombul, is Archie Brothers.” Mr Perry said.
Covering 1700 square metres, Archie Brothers includes ten pin bowling, amusement games, an XD theatre, dodgem cars and of course it’s got a great big bar.
“It’s performing exceptionally well for us. Caters very strongly towards families during the day and there’s a strong product for adults and corporates at night.” Mr Perry said.
Mitchell Price from Lime discussed the role Lime Scooters has in connecting people to and around major retail precincts.
“When we think about these new retail precincts, one of the biggest issues that anyone has is connectivity.” Mr Price said.
“As a modern futurist city, which is trying to get people out of cars and onto new modes of transport, we are certainly seeing a lot of people opting for scooters,
“Not only for getting around during the day, but for recreation, getting in and around the city. So, lime can have a huge role in bringing people into these new precincts.” Mr Price said.
Phil Schoutrop added “I think the issue is having people who have enough faith in the concept to bring it to Australia and have enough faith in the market that is here and trust them enough with the concept to make it work.” Mr Schoutrop said.
Property Council would like to thank Kym Thrift, Senior Leasing Executive – AMP Capital and Chair of Queensland Retail Committee for moderating the event.
Special thanks to our event host West Village.
