Rental reform: proposed changes released
The Department of Housing and Public Works have identified a range of potential changes to Queensland’s tenancy laws.
The Consultation Regulatory Impact Statement outlines proposed changes generated throughout the consultation process.
The changes relate to the following key areas:
- Ending a tenancy
- Minimum Housing Standards
- Renting with Pets
- Minor Modifications
- Domestic and Family Violence
The Property Council welcomes reform that encourages a strong and fair rental market but is concerned that proposed changes may result in owners losing control of their property and increase barriers for both tenants and owners.
It is important that changes do not impact rental stability and lump additional cost on owners which may then be passed on to tenants.
The chance to provide feedback on the proposed reforms closes on 28 December 2019.
