Remembering the property pioneer Bill CairnsProperty Council life member William Cairns passed away in Sydney recently. One of the pioneers of the property industry, Bill was employed with AMP Society for 39 years. At the time of his retirement, he was general manager of AMP Investments and was responsible for managing the group’s global investments.Bill influenced the direction of some of Australia’s top property companies. He was a member of the board of General Property Trust, which became The GPT Group, for more than a decade. He was also a director of Delfin Property Group Limited, which was acquired by Lendlease in 2001.Most recently, Bill was the chairman of Bunnings Property Management.As a former national president of what is now the Property Council of Australia for two years (from 1982 to 1983), Bill led the organisation at a time of change and expansion.”Every organisation owes an enormous debt of gratitude to those people with the vision and foresight to see the future for what it could be. Bill was one of those people,” says the Property Council’s chief executive Ken Morrison.”The Property Council community salutes Bill for his achievements in life and sends our deepest condolences to Josephine and his family.”
