Regulatory update
There have been a variety of regulatory updates regarding building cladding, Logan City Council Planning Amendments, the Sunshine Coast Planning Strategy, Caboolture West, and fire protection licensing.
- Cladding deadline 3 May – the deadline is fast approaching for building owners to obtain a cladding risk assessment and provide additional reporting. For more information please see the QBCC Safer Buildings cladding process guideline.
- Logan City Council Planning Changes – changes have been proposed to Council’s planning scheme to remove the current ‘average lot size’ provision for residential lots, instead introducing new rules for minimum lot sizes and frontages. Contradicting the current market demand for smaller lots and emerging issues relating to affordability, if implemented, this decision will force developers to deliver larger, more costly lots in Logan.
- Sunshine Coast Mass Transit Strategy – consultation is now open until 22 June on Council’s highly anticipated strategy to address transport shortfalls in the region. The final strategy is expected to influence the shape of Council’s new planning scheme, which is also under review. More information on the Strategy can be found here.
- Caboolture West Consultation – Moreton Bay Regional Council is seeking feedback on the proposed Neighbourhood Development Plan No.1 (NDP1) until 25 May 2021. Selected as the pilot project for the State Government’s new Growth Areas Delivery Team, NDP1 is the first of a series of neighbourhood development plans that will be prepared to manage growth in Caboolture West. - A range of changes to fire protection licensing will commence on 1 May 2021. To assist the industry understand the impacts of the changes, QBCC has made a range of resources available for reference, including detailed information on the framework and general information on licensing changes including transitional arrangements and upskilling requirements.
