‘Regional Revitalisation’ Study TourThe Property Council hosted Townsville community and industry leaders for a study tour of Newcastle this week. The tour showcased the lessons from Newcastle’s urban revitalisation journey that can be applied to Townsville. As Townsville looks to attract investment to their Waterfront Priority Development Area and generate employment opportunities, the study tour provided a parallel perspective on Newcastle’s transformation from 19% unemployment to reenergised regional community.The tour highlighted key catalytic projects which triggered private sector investment and reversed Newcastle’s economic fortunes. Attendees heard firsthand of the impact of the Federal Government’s Better Cities Program investment, the benefits of a dedicated Development Corporation, and the long term impact of new planning frameworks.
