Recognising Objectors Bill to challenge growth outlook

The Property Council is urging the State Government to consider the damaging consequences of the Planning and Environment Amendment (Recognising Objectors) Bill 2015 for both the industry and the economy.

By giving unfounded objections the power to decide the future of development in Victoria, the Property Council believes that the Bill has the potential to derail property development. To bolster the rights of those with valid objections, we believe third party objections should carry with them a burden of proof whereby an adverse and negative impact from the development is established first.

The Property Council remains strongly opposed to the Bill and have urged the Government to revisit its proposal through additional consultation with industry.
