Queensland Retirement Conference – A New Lease of Life
The 2019 Retirement Living Conference, held on Thursday 2 May, provided a comprehensive look into the retirement sector, exploring the latest trends, technologies and industry innovations.
Over 1 industry members attended the event to hear from industry leaders. Tammy Berghofer, Special Counsel – MinterEllison, explained the recent legislative changes that have been imposed on the sector, through amendments to the Retirement Villages Act 1999. Tammy spoke to the compulsory buy back scheme that will force developers to purchase freehold units from residents, if the unit has not sold within 18 months.
Rebecca Wilson, CEO – Starts at 60 and Travel at 60, addressed the perception of retirement villages and marketing techniques that village operators can implement to positively attract their target audience, referencing the Retirement Living Council’s A Book of Wise Moves.
Adrian Puljich, Director & CEO – GemLife Communities and Tim Russell, Director – Aura Holdings provided fascinating presentations on the latest developments and initiatives they have implemented in their retirement villages.
