Queensland Lunch: The Entertainment Express
The Property Council’s The Entertainment Express lunch, which explored the Cross River Rail’s proposed entertainment precincts – the Gabba and Roma Street stations- was held Wednesday 31 October at the W Hotel, Brisbane.
The event saw insights from key players in the development of the new rail infrastructure and associated urban renewal areas.
Graeme Newton, Chief Executive Officer- Cross River Rail Delivery Authority, provided a big picture view of the significant infrastructure investment and the opportunities that exist for ground plane improvements across the route. Graeme also updated guests on the progress made to date.
Following Graeme’s remarks, Natalie Hoitz, Director – Urbis, moderated a deep dive session into the two precincts, with expert panellists detailing the property opportunities that they present.
Harvey Lister, Chairman and Chief Executive – AEG Ogden, outlined the long journey taken to bring the Brisbane Live project to the point of broad public and political support. Harvey explained the market demand for the boutique indoor arena and the success of comparable international projects.
Andrew Hay, Development Director – Investment Management – Lendlease, represented the company’s Australian Prime Property Fund which owns the Brisbane Transit Centre at Roma Street. Andrew provided insights on what the future might hold for the site in a revolutionised station precinct.
Pellicano Group’s Managing Director – Nando Pellicano, and Aria Property’s Development Director- Brent Liddell, outlined the realities of those who currently invest in Wolloongabba projects and how a new ‘beating heart’ for the suburb could act as a significant catalyst for further investor interest.
Kirsten Pike, Partner – Dentons & Board Member – Queensland Cricket, explained how the station development will revolutionise the game day experience for Gabba audiences, and how the exterior facelift will likely be followed by an internal investment for the stadium.
