Queensland Housing Strategy released

On 15 June the Queensland Government released the Queensland Housing and Homelessness Action Plan 2021-2025, which outlines Government’s vision to improve the State’s Housing system.

As part of the plan Government will work with the industry and the housing and homelessness sector to deliver more social and affordable homes and better protect vulnerable Queenslanders.

The plan includes a $1.9 billion investment in social housing stock over the next four years and a $1 billion Housing Investment Fund to boost supply and enhance housing and homelessness support services throughout Queensland.

For the retirement sector, the plan also identifies an intention to deliver legislative reforms for manufactured homes, residential services and retirement villages to improve approaches to behavioural standards, site rent increases, utilities charges, dispute resolution and precontractual disclosure and introduced mandatory payment of exit entitlements.

The Property Council has long advocated for increased investment to address Queensland’s undersupply of social and affordable housing and welcomes the strategy’s significant investment.
