Queensland Building Plan Discussion Paper
The Queensland Government has assembled a variety of policy proposals relating to the building and construction sector into a discussion paper, which was released on November 30 as a forerunner to the development of a new Queensland Building Plan.
The stated aim of the plan is to “ensure a safe, fair and more sustainable building and construction future that creates jobs and encourages economic growth.”
A wide range of policy measures are being explored within the discussion paper, including:
- Security of payment
- Queensland Home Warranty Scheme
- Plumbing and Drainage Act Review
- Queensland Housing Code / Reconfiguring a Lot Code
- Building certification
- Non-conforming building products
- Inclusive communities
- Liveable housing design
- Licensing reforms
- Sustainable buildings
The consultation process on the discussion paper will run at least through to March 2017.
A report on the consultation is expected in mid-2017, with the final plan to be presented to Government for endorsement in the second half of 2017.
The Property Council has already been actively engaged with the Government on a number of these policy areas, and will work with members to develop a comprehensive industry response to the Government’s discussion paper.
