Queensland Breakfast: Safe as Houses?
The Property Council’s Safe as Houses? SEQ Residential Insights breakfast, held on 6 September at BCEC, provided guests with analysis from a range of experts, on the current state of the region’s housing market.
Tim Lawless, Head of Research – CoreLogic, provided a keynote presentation offering insights on the sector’s recent performance. Tim revealed a return to positive growth for the local apartment market, which has overcome recent declines. Overall, the SEQ housing market has experienced a sustainable level of growth.
Tim spoke to the strong fundamentals of the SEQ market, with trends like population growth- and in particular interstate migration- underpinning a positive outlook.
Following the presentation, Tim was joined on stage for a panel discussion with Myles Campbell, National Product Manager – Mirvac, Damian Winterburn, Partner – Boulder Capital and Brent Liddell, Residential Manager – Aria Property Group.
The panel session, moderated by Tanya Martin, Development Manager New Business – Lendlease, saw a wide-ranging discussion of current market conditions and what lies ahead for the residential sector. Analysis was shared on the underlying strength of the local apartment market, Brisbane City Council’s new townhouse planning restrictions, and the appetite of foreign investors going forward.
The Property Council would like to thank Tim, Myles, Damian, Brent and Tanya for sharing their insights, and event sponsor RCP for making this event a reality.
