Queensland border to re-open 1am, Monday 13 December 2021

The Government has announced an update to Queensland’s COVID Vaccination Plan which includes relaxed restrictions for interstate and international arrivals and brings forward the Queensland border opening to 1am, Monday 13 December 2021. 

From 1am, Monday 13 December 2021

  • Travellers from interstate hotspots can arrive by road or air
  • They must be fully vaccinated
  • They must provide a negative PCR COVID test in the previous 72 hours
  • No quarantine is required for the fully vaccinated
  • International arrivals must be fully vaccinated and return a negative PCR COVID test within 72 hours of departure
  • They will be required to get a test on arrival
  • They must go into home or hotel quarantine for 14 days

There are two important changes:

  • Travellers are now considered fully vaccinated after one week from second dose
  • All travellers from hotspots must get a test on Day Five after their arrival

From 1am, Monday 13 December 2021 vaccinated border residents will be able to move freely without a test. Border passes will be required and will be valid for 14 days. 

Vaccination Mandate –  Friday 17 December 2021

 From  Friday 17 December 2021, public health and social measures linked to vaccination status will be implemented.

 Individuals must be fully vaccinated (double dose) to enter the following premises:

  • Hospitality venues including hotels, pubs, clubs, taverns, bars, restaurants and cafés
  • Indoor entertainment venues including nightclubs, indoor live music venues, karaoke bars, concerts, theatres and cinemas
  • Outdoor entertainment venues including tourism experiences e.g. reef excursions, sport stadiums, theme parks
  • Festivals – both indoor and outdoor
  • Queensland Government owned galleries, museums and libraries
  • Weddings (otherwise guests will be capped to 20 people)
  • Aged care, hospitals, prisons and disability service facilities
