Proposed reef protection regulationsA discussion paper has been released by the State Government proposing to increase regulations around land-based activities that may affect the water quality on the Great Barrier Reef. The proposals put forward in the discussion paper include introducing a new requirement to offset the impacts of urban development on water quality, based on load limits established for each of the Reef’s catchments. The Property Council will be working with members over the coming weeks to develop a formal response to the proposals.Submissions will close on 7 April 2017, after which a Regulatory Impact Statement will be released for public consultation.
