Proposed Moreton Bay Planning Scheme Refused

Proposed amendments to the Moreton Bay Regional Council Planning Scheme have been refused by the State Government.

Hon Cameron Dick MP, Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning, decided not to allow Moreton Bay to proceed with the amendments, stating the changes would be inconsistent with the Planning Act 2016.

Earlier this year, the Property Council wrote to the Minister highlighting the need for a solution to address infrastructure provision within emerging community areas in Moreton Bay, while also noting concerns with the proposed Coordinating Infrastructure Agreement (CIA) process.

While the Property Council supported the intent of the CIA in seeking to streamline the negotiation and delivery of infrastructure between Moreton Bay Regional Council, Unitywater and the State Government, we raised concern with the departure of the proposed process from current legislative requirements.

139 proposed amendments- including some rezoning- were part of the major amendment package refused by the minister.

Minister Dick has written to Council to inform it of his decision. Any new amendments proposed will be subject to further public consultation.
