Property secrets from the masterRecently-retired industry legend Lyn Shaddock launched his book, Property Secrets: A path to profitable property, at the Property Council’s headquarters on Monday.Renowned for his business acumen and development nous (the Australian Financial Review once dubbed him the ‘master of the Sydney property cycle’), Shaddock (pictured) devoted a -plus year career to the property game.He successfully picked four property cycles and delivered developments both in Australia and overseas.An honorary national life member and founding member of the Property Council, Shaddock was more recently Citibank’s director of Real Estate Asia Pacific and chairman of ASX-listed investment trust, Growthpoint Properties Australia, for seven years.Shaddock says his memoir was “written in the hope that the next generation of property entrepreneurs can benefit from my experience and not repeat history.”Launching the book, Property Council president Mark Steinert said “few industries can name leaders with the experience, success and insights” of Shaddock.”His career has seen him achieving landmark wins in the High Court, negotiating a Sydney office development in Las Vegas, and selling a listed fund to Alan Bond while in a crowded lift,” Steinert said.Among Shaddock’s insights is studying the property cycle, and selling when everyone else is buying.”Understanding property cycles are critical to success,” Shaddock explains.”The cycles seem to have the same characteristics no matter when they occur, be it in 1880 or 1980.”Purchase Property Secrets; A path to profitable property.
