Property Market Outlook 2018

More than 600 property industry members attended the Property Council’s annual Property Market Outlook, on Friday 9 February, to hear from Bernard Salt AM – The Demographics Group.Bernard’s theme of the presentation this year was Building Better Communities in Queensland, which he used as an opportunity to highlight both the challenges and opportunities that population growth presents.

Picking up on the South East Queensland Regional Plan, Bernard spoke about the challenge of planning and delivering infrastructure to accommodate a doubling of the population over the next 40 years.

Bernard then detailed the changing social and religious trends that he has analysed through the data contained in the 2016 Census.  Two key insights were provided- firstly, there has been a shift away from larger religious faiths with the largest cohort now identifying themselves as having no religion.

Secondly, there is a growing trend that as our population ages, single households will significantly increase.  Based on this trend, Bernard concluded that loneliness will likely be a major social issue over the next decade, and he challenged the property industry to tackle the issue.

Bernard was then joined on stage by Raynuha Sinnathamby, Managing Director – Springfield City Group and Andrew Borger, Head of Office Development Services – Charter Hall.  The panel discussed the key themes emerging from Bernard’s presentation, along with how the property market will perform over the coming year and beyond.

The Property Council greatly appreciates the support of major sponsor Charter Hall and supporting sponsor Ray White Commercial Queensland.
