Property industry steps out for at risk youthThe 0 people who attended the Property Industry Foundation annual charity ball in Sydney in August raised more than $230,000 for at risk and homeless young people.Rosemary Smithson, PIF’s chief executive officer, says the ball was a great success, thanking the industry professionals who are “really getting behind PIF and supporting the work we do”.”It’s the ongoing support of these corporates that enables us to continue to help young people rebuild their lives,” Smithson explains. The charity ball was sponsored by construction group Ganellen, together with media sponsor Australian Financial Review. Brookfield donated the use of the entertainment space at Luna Park. A silent auction raised more than $90,000 through the generosity of companies including Charter Hall, Lateral Estate, Schiavello and W Property. All proceeds from the fundraiser will go towards the PIF House program, which provides housing and services for at risk and homeless youth.Since 1996, PIF has donated around $20 million to more than 25 different homeless youth charity programs.”Young people under the age of 25 make up half of our nation’s homeless population. PIF not only builds new housing for these young people, but also provides financial assistance to charities that help them get back on their feet,” says Property Council chief executive Ken Morrison.”We can be proud that an industry which builds shelter from the storm is also helping to give back to those most in need of that shelter,” Morrison concludes.Learn more about PIF.
