Property Industry Calls for Election Commitments to Keep WA Growing

Today marks the launch of The Property Council’s 2017 WA election campaign: Keep WA Growing: A platform for prosperity, jobs and strong communities.

The Property Council’s election platform is centred around achieving five key objectives to keep WA growing. These five objectives comprise 17 policy recommendations which need to be seen as priorities by whichever party takes power next March.

The five objectives, and linked policy measures are:

Linking infrastructure to where people live and work

  • Create an independent infrastructure agency

  • Infrastructure incentives

  • Asset recycling to fund infrastructure

Simpler taxes to support housing affordability, investment and growth

  • Rule out tax increases

  • Simplify land tax system

  • Remove unfair tax penalties

  • Incentivise seniors downsizing

Growing strong communities through good planning

  • Keep the DAPS

  • Create consistent planning

Cutting red-tape

  • Reform trading hours

  • Full private certification for building permits

  • Modernise retirement living laws

  • Bring Strata laws into the 21st century

  • A more vibrant and sustainable CBD

Providing more housing choice for all West Australians

  • Transparent local planning performance

  • Retirement living housing targets

  • Improve housing choice for seniors

As the election campaign gets under way, the Property Council will be informing members, through up-to-date alerts and news stories, of where all parties stand on the key policy initiatives outlined in its election agenda.
