Property Council working hard on your behalf

The Property Council in WA has been working hard on your behalf, undertaking much formal and informal engagement with State Government in recent months.

As part of getting stuck in to her new role, Executive Director Sandra Brewer has had a series of productive meetings with Members of Parliament, heads of state government departments and chairs of state government boards and working groups. These meetings, also attended by Deputy ED Emma Thunder, have provided the perfect opportunity both to outline the priorities and concerns of our members and also to be updated on the progress Government is making on some of its key initiatives and work programs.

We have received updates from Minister Peter Tinley on WA’s Affordable Housing Action Plan and the Department of Communities’ The Precincts project; talked place-making and priorities for Perth with Hon. John Carey; discussed the future of logistics and the supply chain in WA with Nicole Lockwood; heard from George McCullagh how the MRA/LandCorp merger is progressing; brainstormed how to achieve successful and appropriate community and stakeholder engagement with David Caddy; and talked through the priorities and quick wins that Planning Reform might achieve with Gail McGowan.

Most recently we and key members of our Retirement Living Committee have been engaging with the Commissioner for Consumer Protection, the DG of DMIRS and Minister Bill Johnston’s Office to discuss the much-anticipated review of the Retirement Villages Act in WA, and the complexities of the Royal Commission into Aged Care.

The Property Council also continues to be represented on key project stakeholder groups. Recent workshops and briefings attended include the METRONET private sector reference group meetings; presenting at an Industrial Lands Authority Steering Committee meeting; the State-wide Cladding Audit stakeholders group meeting; and the Westport reference group sessions. The last few weeks have seen Sandra Brewer and key members of Division Council meet with members of the MRA/LandCorp Board and staff; Emma Thunder attend the first State Government Precinct Design Policy stakeholder workshop; and Rachael Champtaloup attend the inspiring inaugural Town Team Movement Conference.

We take our advocacy and policy responsibilities seriously and are constantly on the look-out for opportunities to represent our members’ interests and seek information on their behalf. If you are interested in information on any of the engagement activities outlined above please don’t hesitate to contact Emma Thunder.
