Property Council welcomes new member Hera Engineering
The Property Council welcomes new member Hera Engineering. We sat down with Elena Tobia, Office Administrator of Hera Engineering to find out more about the company and what key projects they are currently working on.
“Hera Engineering is a modern and progressive structural engineering consultancy firm with a team of local and international engineers. Our core values are Innovation, Value Engineering, Relationships and Team Work. Hera Engineering was established after the founders identified an opportunity in the market for a firm that could offer an integrated approach to structural engineering, particularly for high-rise buildings and complex structures. This holistic approach includes three key design components: structural, construction and façade. Our expertise is completing complex, large-scale or intricate projects that require economical and innovative design solutions. Some of our key projects include:
300 George St, Brisbane
Hera Engineering was initially engaged to complete Value Engineering for a 41 storey office tower in Brisbane. By utilising our extensive experience in value engineering, our expertise in innovative and efficient high rise design based on current international best practise and using advanced modelling methods, and our close relationship with contractors and suppliers, we were able to propose significant improvements to the structural layout and construction methodology. This resulted in cost and schedule savings for the client several orders of magnitude larger than our fee. As a sign of the degree of customer satisfaction achieved, we were subsequently engaged to carry the revised layout and construction methodology through the detailed design and construction phase, which is currently underway.
0 Hay St, Subiaco
Hera Engineering was engaged to complete value engineering and detailed design on an alternative design utilising a steel composite superstructure. Ultimately this option was pursued, with both the number of trades on site and the construction time greatly reduced as a result. Use of a composite floor meant no temporary propping was required, allowing works to continue immediately under each floor as it was erected. The structural steel core was the first of its kind in Perth and Hera Engineering completed innovative detailed analysis and design using Australian and international standards. Hera Engineering also completed construction engineering and undertook structural fire design using finite element analysis, allowing a reduction in passive fire protection requirements without compromising the safety of the building. Hera Engineering’s exceptional contribution to this recently completed project was recognised within a feature article of the Australian Steel Institute publication Steel Australia, December 2016, Vol 29 No. 4.
New Perth Museum, Northbridge
Hera Engineering is currently undertaking detailed design of the façade for the landmark New Perth Museum project. The elegant and unique façade has presented many challenges, however our commitment to working collaboratively with the consultant team, our existing relationships with a network of suppliers of proprietary façade products, and our expertise in Building Information Management (BIM) has allowed us to identify and resolve clashes, and seamlessly integrate the façade with the building structure. Hera Engineering is also engaged for temporary works engineering on site, to ensure the integrity and protection of existing heritage listed structures during excavation and foundation works.”
