Property Council submission update
Over the past two weeks the Property Council has responded to important reform initiatives in Queensland.
The Property Council and our members have long advocated for the need to reform Queensland’s differential and minimum rating system. We took this opportunity to reiterate our position to the Department of Local Government and strongly support measures, also detailed in the discussion papers, that will increase accountability and transparency around local government rating practices.
In addition to the proposed amendments, the Property Council encouraged the Department to consider further action to make local government rating practices consistent with the principles of fair and equitable taxation.
Supplementary to our submission, we included a research report, produced by Queensland Economic Advocacy Solutions, ‘Review of local government rates paid by Queensland non-residential property owners and resource projects’.
The report analyses local government rating practices and performance for non-residential properties across Queensland and illustrates the practical dollar implications of inconsistent, inequitable and volatile rating practices facing property owners across Queensland.
Brisbane Airport 2020 Preliminary Draft Master Plan
The Property Council believes the strategies and projects the Draft Master Plan contains are necessary to adequately facilitate the future growth of Brisbane Airport. The business precincts controlled by Brisbane Airport have grown into thriving business communities which is why we not only strongly support the 24/7 operations of the airport but the initiatives to better connect the airport to key industrial areas and transport nodes.
Moreton Bay Regional Council’s Planning Scheme Tailored Amendment No. 1.
The Property Council responded to Moreton Bay Regional Council’s Planning Scheme Tailored Amendment No. 1. We support the amendments proposed by the Council and believe they will increase the usability and functionality of their new planning scheme and simplify the development assessment process.
We look forward to continuing to work alongside Local Government and the Brisbane Airport in the implementation of their planning initiatives which will help to support a growing local economy.
