Property Council raises ~ 90k for Mission Australia
The Property Council in WA and our members have come out in strong support of the fantastic initiatives of Mission Australia to help some of Western Australia’s homeless and marginalised, raising almost $90,000 in just over 12 months.
The funds raised will go towards helping Mission Australia WA provide key services and to help it stage Christmas Lunch in the Park in Perth’s Wellington Square for the 43rd year in a row.
The Property Council’s annual Christmas Lunch held last week at Crown Perth attracted more than 1,000 guests and raised almost $30,000 for Mission Australia on the day.
Following the success of the Property Council Christmas Lunch, Mission Australia State Director WA, Jo Sadler; Property Council WA President Tanya Trevisan, Executive Director, Sandra Brewer; and the WA Property Council team joined forces at Foodbank’s Perth headquarters on Tuesday 11 December to help put together 1,200 care packs containing essential items and long-life food to be distributed to attendees at Mission Australia’s annual Christmas Lunch in the Park, along with information connecting attendees to essential support services throughout Perth.
Ms Trevisan said the partnership with Mission Australia came about through the WA Division Council’s desire to capitalise on its two biggest and ‘feel good’ annual events by providing a great opportunity for members to give back to the community.
“I’m incredibly proud of the relationship we formed a year ago,” Ms Trevisan said.
“The Property Council team and our members have fully and enthusiastically embraced this partnership – donating raffle prizes, buying raffle tickets and making generous donations at those events, the Christmas Party and at the Women in Property Keynote Lunch.
“The Christmas Party raised almost $30,000 on the day, bringing the total raised for Mission Australia over the past 12 months to just under $90,000,” she added.
“This funding will contribute to funding Christmas in the Park for Perth’s homeless and most vulnerable, and upgrading a crisis centre for victims and families of domestic violence in Meekatharra,” she said.
Mission Australia’s State Director WA, Jo Sadler, said the partnership and support that the Property Council has given to Mission Australia over the past year has been invaluable in terms of helping raise funds that will go towards improving the lives of some of our most vulnerable Western Australians.
“The money raised at the Council’s annual Christmas function supports us to deliver our annual Christmas Lunch in the Park event for people experiencing homelessness or disadvantage. Through the support of the community, including our partners at the Property Council, we are able to bring hope, compassion and celebration to Perth’s most marginalised and disadvantaged people on Christmas Day.”
Mission Australia’s integrated nationwide services help people find safe and affordable housing, support disadvantaged children and families, empower troubled young people, assist people with mental illness and disability, and much more through early intervention and prevention.
