Property Council provides feedback on Transport Network Pricing
The Property Council has responded to Infrastructure Victoria’s Transport Network Pricing discussion paper, The Road Ahead. The Property Council supports transport network pricing as traffic congestion becomes an ever-increasing problem in Melbourne. The Property Council urged Infrastructure Victoria to consider the important role of freight and logistics when considering road network pricing as well as commuter peak hour congestion. It is important to maximise efficiency in the freight and logistics supply chain. Consideration of the impact of a transport network pricing would have on land use policies such as Plan Melbourne Refresh is also essential.
The Property Council’s support for a Transport Network Pricing mechanism is conditional on the provision of a range of public transport options. This is especially important in growth areas, which do not currently enjoy the same transport infrastructure compared with established areas.
As transport network pricing is one of Infrastructure Victoria’s three key priorities, the Property Council has also urged the Government not to shy away from this complex issue.
The next report from Infrastructure Victoria on Victoria’s port capacity is expected in March 2017. The Property Council prepared a submission to Infrastructure Victoria’s discussion paper and will continue to represent the industry on this important issue.
