Mentor Program 2016

We are pleased to open the Expressions of Interest for the Property Council of Australia’s Mentor Program for 2016. This is the 5th year of the program which has grown from strength to strength.

About the Program

The mentoring program runs annually throughout the calendar year. The program is only available in Victoria to member organisations of the Property Council of Australia.

Participants are capped at 80 (40 mentees and 40 mentors). We provide high quality, committed experienced mentors with leadership, management and diverse property industry experience that will be matched to the mentee’s needs over industry experience.

In 2015 the Property Council had over 3 applicants for Mentee positions. Therefore being accepted through the application process is a great achievement but one which comes with a time and responsibility committment. The minimum time requirement is 1 hour per month, ideally with a face to face meeting. Both mentors and mentees need to understand that the mentoring program requires this commitment to make it work, be happy to give up their time to participate in the program and to communicate with their mentee/mentor.

Role of the Mentor

As a mentor, your primary role is to provide guidance and support to your mentee based on his or her unique goals and developmental needs. This means you may share with your mentee information about your own career path, as well as provide guidance, motivation, emotional support, and role modelling. You may help with exploring careers, setting goals, developing networking contacts, and identifying resources that may assist your mentee. The knowledge, advice, and resources you share will depend on the goals of a specific mentoring relationship. You may also choose to introduce your mentee to another mentor within the program if you believe they will be able to add value to your mentee in a specific area.

Role of the Mentee

As a mentee you are in the privileged position of having access to an industry leader who is freely giving his/her time to help you develop in your career.  As such it is important that you treat this relationship as a two way learning experience and therefore you Look for opportunities to give back to your mentor by sharing any information that you think might be valuable. As a mentee the success of your learning rests with you. You are responsible to identify the skills and competencies you wish to gain and assume the initiative to ask for the help or guidance from your mentor to achieve your goals. Your responsibilities include exploring and absorbing the mentor’s knowledge and then demonstrating what you have learned.
