Property Council Illawarra kicks off 2017
The Illawarra has kicked off 2017 at a cracking pace with a very successful Outlook event with KPMG partner Bernard Salt, Illawarra property faring well in the Property Council’s Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards and some critical issues for the region on the agenda for the year ahead.
Illawarra property stands tall
IRT’s Kemira development, Fraser Property’s Shell Cove and Stockland’s Shellharbour developments have all been nominated as finalists in the Property Council Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards for 2017.
Fraser’ Shell Cove was nominated as a great example of a master planned community and reflects its stunning setting and connection with the local environment, local services and the best the coast has to offer.
Stockland Shellharbour has been nominated for its performance in sustainability – it has Australia’s largest single rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) installation to provide clean, green, renewable energy that generates 13 per cent of the centre’s retailer power requirements. It is a key demonstration of sustainability leadership and innovation.
Kemira at IRT William Beach Gardens is up against 13 other projects for the Development Innovation Award. The specially designed community for ageing people with intellectual disability and their primary carers features 12 universally designed villas, a community centre and a five-bed respite centre.
It is great to see Illawarra properties being recognised as top class developments. The winners will be announced at an event in Sydney on 5 May 2017.
Outlook Illawarra 2017
Leading Australian social commentator, demographer and KPMG partner Bernard Salt was the keynote speaker at this year’s Illawarra Outlook that was held in Wollongong on Friday 10th February.
Mr Salt gave an engaging presentation about the social and economic prospects for the Illawarra including the emerging trends in property.
Mr Salt spoke is predicting the Illawarra’s population growth will stem from 30 to 39-year old’s looking for an affordable first home or family home, and from those over the age of 60 looking to downsize or to have a sea change.

Key Priorities for 2017
The Illawarra Chapter Committee will be meeting for the first time in 2017 on Thursday 16th March to discuss the key priorities for 2017. Affordable housing in the Illawarra, creating a grand vision for the region and looking at the growth of urban centres and how this can increase access to transport and local services are all on the committee’s agenda.
