Property Council continues push for vegetation management balanceThe Property Council has continued in its efforts to ensure an appropriate balance is achieved in the State’s vegetation management laws. While aimed at curtailing agricultural clearing, the Queensland Government’s proposed amendments to the State’s vegetation management framework will introduce new requirements and prohibitions on landowners which will have an inadvertent impact on the viability of urban development projects. The proposals include increasing environmental offset requirements and retrospectively reclassifying land categories. After providing a submission to the Agriculture and Environment Committee’s investigation of the amendments, the Property Council provided evidence before the Committee last Thursday. The Property Council has also held meetings with the Deputy Premier, Environment Minister and senior bureaucrats from both departments to brief them on the industry’s concerns with the proposed amendments. The Agriculture and Environment Committee is expected to table a report on its investigation into the Bill by 30 June.
