PROPERTY COUNCIL COMMENDS THE SUCCESS OF CHRISTMAS LUNCH IN THE PARK

Mission Australia’s Christmas Lunch in the Park was a huge success with more than 1200 of Perth’s marginalised people enjoying a Christmas feast of Kailis Bros West Australian Rock Lobsters*, Mondo Doro leg ham, wrapped chocolate and cranberry Christmas puddings and shortbread.

The Property Council WA and our members came out in strong support for the fantastic initiatives of Mission Australia, including Christmas Lunch in the Park. Together we have raised almost $90,000 in the last 12 months. The 2018 WA Property Council Christmas lunch held at Crown Perth raised almost $30,000 for Mission Australia alone!

Following the success of the Property Council Christmas Lunch, the WA Property Council team joined forces with Foodbank’s Perth headquarters and Mission Australia to help put together 1,200 care packs, which were distributed to attendees at the Christmas Lunch in the Park.

“Although it’s primarily about providing a festive meal, company and entertainment for Perth’s most vulnerable, it also provides an important means of linking attendees to support services to extend the benefit beyond the day,” State Director Mission Australia WA, Jo Sadler said.

Now in its 43rd year, Christmas Lunch in the Park, in Perth’s Wellington Square, is the longest running charity lunch of its kind in Australia. It has served up more than 60,000 meals to those in need since it was first held in Perth in 1975.

The event was the result of months of planning and teamwork by Mission Australia staff and volunteers who willingly gave up their Christmas day with family and friends to come together to make sure the day was a memorable one for all of those who attended.

As well as a festive feast for 1200, last year’s event included gifts for all the children, live music, face painting and a guest appearance from Father Christmas.

The WA Property Council will continue to work with Mission Australia to help support the important initiatives and services they provide to some of Australia’s most vulnerable people.
