Property Council Awards Second Honorary Life Membership in 20 Years
The Property Council is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2016 and to mark the occasion across Australia the Property Council is recognising individuals who have made a big contribution to the industry over the last 20 years.
Ian Armstrong will be given the rare honour of life membership of the Property Council in Western Australia at today’s industry lunch.
“This is only the second time WA has awarded a life membership, and I couldn’t think of anyone more deserving than Ian,” Property Council WA Executive Director Lino Iacomella said.
The first honorary life membership was awarded to property leader Tony Packer, 15 years ago.
Ian served an extended period as WA President of the Property Council and participated on many committees and delegations to Premiers and ministers..
Ian’s first involvement with industry representation was around retail advocacy. In the early 1970’s he was part of an industry group that advocated on behalf of shopping centre development in Perth.
Ian joined the Property Council’s Division Council in 2005 and served as WA President from 2007 – 2011. He continued to serve on Division Council until 2013.
“Ian has always been quick to support and champion innovation at the Property Council, including leading the inaugural Leaders Conference in the Goldfields,” Iacomella said.
“Ian also strongly supported the allocation of greater resources to research and public advocacy in the Property Council’s WA Division budget and his time coincided with a marked increase in the Division’s research output.
“Ian’s enduring legacy at the Property Council in WA will be the establishment of a strong collaborative relationship between the Property Council and the City of Perth. This achievement is particularly significant with the enacting of the City of Perth Act in 2016 and the greater role of the CBD in driving economic activity in WA.
“Ian’s personal brand is associated with the Perron Group; leading the creation of one of the largest private property portfolio’s in WA; and staunch support for the property industry’s peak body. Ian was also a strong supporter of property education and was a trustee for the Property Education Foundation,” Iacomella said.
