Property CEOs push for change

Ten leading property industry CEOs, part of of the now 22-strong Property Male Champions of Change cohort, fronted a sell out crowd of more than nine hundred business people in Sydney on Wednesday to push the case for more women in leadership positions.

Building on the Male Champions of Change strategy, founded by Sex Discrimination Commissioner Elizabeth Broderick, the number of property CEOs who have signed on to the first industry specific initiative has more than doubled since its launch last October.

The initiative sees men in senior leadership positions take on a leading role to accelerate gender equality in the historically male-dominated property industry.

Moderated by Narelle Hooper the event in Sydney is the last in a series of extremely well-supported nationwide launches that have focused attention on the practical solutions to address the lack of women in leadership roles.

Property Council of Australia Chief Executive and a founding Property Male Champion of Change, Ken Morrison, said industry leaders appreciated that having more women in leadership roles made good business sense.

“The business case for having more women on boards and right across the senior echelons of the property industry has been made ten times over, the challenge now is working out how we achieve it ten times faster,” Mr Morrison said.

“Pragmatism, innovation and best- practice – the things our industry is renowned for – must urgently be applied to get more women into senior leadership positions in the property and construction industries.

“Today you are seeing a panel of ten property industry directors – our success going forward will be measured by the fact that never again will you see such male dominance at the chief executive level.”
