Premier Commits to Independent Housing Supply Expert Panel

The Premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk MP, addressed the Property Council on Tuesday 25 July, providing an extensive update on the Government’s agenda for infrastructure, planning and the general economy.

As part of her address, the Premier announced that her Government would move to establish a formal South East Queensland Housing Supply Expert Panel to monitor supply and demand for housing in the region.

The Premier made the announcement in response to calls  from the Property Council and the Queensland Council of Social Services (QCOSS) earlier this year for the establishment of an independent Housing Supply Council to collect, monitor and review data on housing.

While the model proposed by Government relies on internal processes to collect information, the announcement was welcomed by the Property Council as step towards depoliticizing the provision of housing in Queensland.

The Premier also spoke to her Government’s commitment to deliver the Cross River Rail project and work with the private sector to leverage this infrastructure for new city shaping opportunities. The Premier indicated that the SEQ Regional Plan will be released before the end of August.

The Property Council would like to thank the Premier for taking the time to address its members, and sponsor Stockland, and supporting sponsor, Arkhefield, for their support of this event.
