Plumbing and Drainage Bill 2018 Passes Parliament
The State Parliament has passed the Plumbing and Drainage Bill 2018, which aims to simplify the regulatory system for plumbing and gasfitting.
The new legislation establishes a more streamlined legislative framework for plumbing and drainage, paving the way for modernised regulatory requirements for obtaining approvals for work.
This includes reforms that allow new product development and the implementation of new construction techniques.
In March the Property Council responded to the proposed reforms extended its support to proposals, but called for further consultation on the proposal to regulate or prohibit WaterMark products in Queensland. The legislation has allowed for the prohibition of WaterMark products by regulation.
The Bill also includes amendments to the Building Industry Fairness (Security of Payment) Act 2017, clarifying the legal requirements for industry when implementing project bank accounts on building projects, and providing payment schedules.
