Planning for the Western Sydney Employment Area

  • August 27, 2014

Planning for the Western Sydney Employment AreaThe NSW Government will add an extra 4,357 hectares to the Western Sydney Employment Area to include Badgerys Creek Airport. The proposed broader Western Sydney Employment Area will deliver dedicated employment lands to bring future jobs closer to homes in the North West and South West Growth Centres, and also provide supporting commercial and industrial infrastructure for the second Airport. The 2013 Draft Structure Plan is being revisited to incorporate the Airport, and confirm expansion to the South West Growth Centre. The Property Council welcomes the Government’s focus to bring the area online. “The challenge is to move swiftly to complete structure plans, undertake rezonings, set a schedule for infrastructure delivery and ensure jobs and investment begin to flow”, said NSW Executive Director, Glenn Byres. It is crucial the new plan incorporate forward planning for utilities grids, road upgrades to connect the employment lands to Western Sydney, corridor reservation for the Outer Sydney Orbital, intermodal development, and a sequential land release program. “It is also a timely reminder that we need to see the Metropolitan Plan finalised soon – as well as delivery of the proposed Greater Sydney Commission,” said Mr Byres.
