Planning for Non-Planners workshop

  • June 23, 2016

Planning for Non-Planners workshopTogether with Urbis, the Property Council hosted the first ‘Planning for Non-Planners’ professional development workshop this week, offering attendees an opportunity to better understand Queensland’s land-use planning system and its implications for urban development.Overcoming the knowledge gap about our State’s complex planning framework is one of the challenges facing the industry, particularly given the recent pace of reform. Outside of the highly specialised planning professionals within councils and the property industry, comprehension of how the various planning instruments, schemes and policies work is not widespread. The Planning for Non-Planners workshop went beyond the theoretical concepts behind our planning system, such as performance-based planning and our planning hierarchy, to explore how the system works in practice. The course provided clarity on how the different components of the planning system, such as infrastructure charges, affect the end product and impact housing affordability. While the next Planning for Non-Planners one-day workshop has also sold-out, a waitlist is being compiled for a third event. The Property Council sincerely thanks Urbis for hosting the workshop, and Urbis team members Ben Slack, Ashley Lane, Stephanie Wyeth, Sophie Lam, Ben Weaver and Cameron Stanley for their contributions before and on the day.Workshop Hosts:
