Planning changes

Several developments in the planning space have occurred over the last fortnight, including the release of a draft Caloundra Centre Master Plan, updates to SPP and SARA mapping,changes to the management of BCC Permissible Change requests and more details on Brisbane City Council’s new seniors’ housing incentives.

Draft Caloundra Centre Master Plan
The Sunshine Coast Council has released a draft Caloundra Centre Master Plan aimed at establishing the precinct as an active and vibrant centre.  The proposals in the draft plan include:

  • New open air town square for arts and cultural events and activities
  • New and renewed community facilities
  • New transformative development sites and new approaches to built form and building heights to boost the Caloundra Centre residential and tourist population and to stimulate business and employment opportunities
  • New road entries, bikeways and pedestrian paths and public transport initiatives to improve access and to link central areas of the city heart
  • New mix of residential development, sports-related accommodation and allied health facilities
  • New look urban design to built form and landscaping to achieve a distinctively Caloundra identity.

Public comment is sought on the draft plan by Friday 7 October 2016.

SPP and SARA mapping updates
The State Planning Interactive Mapping System and State Assessment and Referral Agency development assessment mapping system has been updated to reflect two new heritage places and to two boundary corrections. Harristown State High School (Western Downs Regional Council) and Dalby State High School (Toowoomba Regional Council) have been added to Queensland Heritage Place dataset. While the Carcory Homestead Ruin (Diamantina Shire Council) Townsville Railway Station and North Yards Railway Workshops (Townsville City Council) have had their boundaries corrected.

Changes to the management of BCC Permissible Change requests
Brisbane City Council has introduced a new process for managing Permissible Change requests following industry feedback. The pre-lodgement service has been reintroduced with some key improvements. Council has advised that the improved pre-lodgement service will provide more tailored advice and timelier processing upon lodgement.
