Planning Bills introduced into Parliament

Queensland’s Deputy Premier, Hon Jackie Trad MP, has introduced the Government’s much-anticipated new planning bills into Parliament.

The Planning Bills are the culmination of three years of extensive stakeholder consultation, and represent a huge step towards the simplification of Queensland’s planning system.

The Bills are now with the Parliament’s Infrastructure, Planning and Natural Resources Committee for review until March next year. Submissions on the legislation will be open until 18 January 2016.

The Committee will also now resume its consideration of the Private Member’s Bills that were introduced by the Shadow Minister, Tim Nicholls, on 4 June 2015.

In the meantime, the Department is seeking industry feedback on several planning instruments that support the operation of the new system.

In addition to development assessment rules, the Department is consulting on plan making rules, infrastructure designation guidelines and planning regulation. Live streaming information sessions are being conducted by the Department in November.
