Plan for Botanic Gardens revitalisation released

Brisbane City Council has released the final City Botanic Gardens Master Plan 2015 (the Plan), which outlines opportunities for the gardens, and ways to protect its heritage values for future generations.

First released as a draft for public and stakeholder comment in mid-2014, the Plan has now been finalised and can be found here.

The Plan is developed with consideration to five key design principles and opportunities, each of which includes priority projects with delivery timeframe considerations as well as long term, aspirational upgrades and additions to the Gardens.

These principles are:

  1. provide an exciting riverside public realm
  2. bring Brisbane’s unique cultural heritage to life
  3. increase accessibility and connection
  4. enhance Brisbane’s subtropical lifestyle
  5. champion partnerships that increase our global reputation.

The Botanic Gardens are identified as a key inner-city space for future renewal in the City Centre Master Plan 2014 (the Master Plan) and is one of the three ‘Green Anchors’ of the inner city.

Along with Roma Street Parklands the Botanic Gardens are identified in the Master Plan as the bookends of the Albert Street ‘Green Spine’ – a key city-making move and priority project.
