Pillar expansion means regional jobs winThe Illawarra based Pillar superannuation fund has announced it will expand in the region, beginning by advertising the first of 40 new jobs over the weekend to end speculation it will be relocated.Pillar is the State Government’s superannuation administration, employing 730 people at its Coniston headquarters, located just south of Wollongong’s CBD.The Property Council joined other business groups – the Australian Industry Group and the Illawarra Business Chamber – and Wollongong City Council to lobby to keep Pillar jobs local after the NSW Government flagged a potential sell-off of the state-owned company. The Property Council headlined concerns about the sale in its representation to the NSW Community Cabinet meeting last year, meeting then Treasurer Mike Baird with concerns about the potential job losses in an area already burdened by high unemployment.”This is welcome news from Pillar and the NSW Government for this region. It means not just retaining these jobs locally but more professional roles for the Illawarra,” Property Council Regional Director Amanda Kunkler said.
