PIF’s StreetSLEEP raises more than $155KThis year’s StreetSLEEP charity event has surpassed its targets, raising more than $155,000 for disadvantaged youth through events in Sydney and Brisbane. The annual Property Industry Foundation (PIF) fundraiser, in partnership with Lend Lease, has already doubled its initial targets and continues to attract donations.More than 200 young industry leaders across Sydney and Brisbane participated in the event, sleeping out to raise awareness of youth homelessness.”The turnout this year was overwhelming and we thank everyone who got involved,” said Rosemary Smithson, National Chief Executive Officer of PIF. “We are delighted that funds raised exceeded our targets and it is clear that the industry has embraced this different style of event.”More than 70,000 young homeless people sleep rough on the streets of Sydney and Melbourne every night, desperate for food, clothing and shelter. “In many cases these young people are fleeing dysfunctional and abusive environments only to find themselves in far worse predicaments,” PIF said.StreetSLEEP is the initiative of PIF’s Young Leadership Program, PropertyBlitz, which aims to provide “a unique opportunity for young industry leaders to understand the reality of sleeping rough on the streets”.For more information, go to www.pif.com.au
