Perth Parking Management Act Set for Changes

More unnecessary red-tape and costs are expected from a raft of amendments to the Perth CBD’s parking regulations.

The WA Department of Transport is proposing to amend the Perth Parking Management Act, which administers the licensing of car bays in the City of Perth.  The changes include a new fee for multiple applications to vary a parking license.

The annual levy on building owners for a single tenant parking bay in the CBD is an exorbitant $1,093.70 and it is totally inappropriate that a further levy be imposed for an administrative function.  It is also proposed to change the purpose of the Act and the use of accumulated revenue from the parking levy.

The Property Council has strongly advocated that the frequent increases in the levy in excess of % must stop and that the levy proceeds should be placed in a defined fund that is used to assist with transport and access in the CBD.  Unused revenue should be returned in the form of a lower levy.
