People on the move – 8 September 2014The Property Council appoints Brian Wightman as its new Tasmanian executive director; plus there are new appointments at CBRE Global Investors, Knight Frank and Napier & Blakeley International.Brian Wightman, who is from Tasmania, beat out a strong field of candidates for the role of executive director in Tasmania of the Property Council of Australia.Wightman said he looks forward to the challenge of representing Tasmania’s property and construction industries, which employ almost 17 per cent of the state’s workforce. He added that he was keen to see outcomes delivered from key state government initiatives including the Planning Reform Task Force, the Coordinator General (based in Launceston), the Department of State Growth and Infrastructure Tasmania.At CBRE Global Investors, Andrew Glass has taken on the role of managing director, Australia. He’ll head up the firm’s direct investment program, which will target key domestic markets and support the investment strategies of the global funds management business.Glass has 25 years’ experience in the commercial real estate sector, having worked as an investor, fund manager and a service provider. Before joining CBRE Global Investors, he was head of the unlisted platform for co-mingled funds at Charter Hall Group. Prior to that he was senior vice president for GIC Real Estate in Singapore, where he was responsible for the group’s investment program into Australia and Korea.Also appointed to the position of managing director, at Knight Frank’s new Parramatta office, is David Morris.Morris will help the company leverage opportunities in Western Sydney. He has varied experience in property markets and asset classes, including retail, office and industrial leasing, sales and development projects. Much of Morris’ career has been with Colliers International, where he held senior roles such as NSW metropolitan investment sales director and Sydney West office director.And Peter Mitchell has assumed the position of non-executive chairman of Napier & Blakeley International. An expert in the Asian property market, he will help lead the group’s continued expansion into Asia.Mitchell’s most recent role was as CEO of APREA in Singapore, where he developed the association from a small 40-member body to almost 200 members globally. Among his achievements while at APREA was his establishment of the most comprehensive listed real estate index series for the Asia-Pacific region, in partnership with Thomson Reuters and GPR, as well as the creation of a number of practical and applied training programs under the banner ‘APREA Institute’.
