The Western Sydney City Deal gains momentum as Geoff Roberts is appointed chief coordinator, while Connal Townsend, long-serving CEO of the Property Council of New Zealand, retires.

Greater Sydney Commission deputy chief commissioner Geoff Roberts (pictured) will lead the new Western Sydney Development Authority. GSC chief commissioner Lucy Turnbull says Roberts will play a “non-partisan role in championing the City Deal and the Western Parkland City”. He will continue to serve as deputy chief commissioner and economic commissioner pending the appointment of a new commissioner later this year.

Connal Townsend, the long-serving chief executive officer of the Property Council of New Zealand, has announced his retirement. Townsend, who has led the organisation for nearly 15 years, will conclude his term as CEO on 31 December 2018. During Townsend’s time at the helm, the Property Council has evolved from a small industry body to the voice of the property industry in New Zealand.

MGS Architects has appointed a new associate director, Katherine Sundermann. An urban designer with a background in architecture and planning, Sundermann has led major university masterplans, and has contributed to strategies for creative precincts in Cremorne and central Ballarat.

Jeremy Marmur joins PropTech company Xperior as its new general manager. Marmur has more than 20 years in real estate behind him, including roles with JLL, Savills and Equiem. Marmur will drive Xperior’s business development pipeline in both local and global markets.

CBRE is expanding its residential business with a dedicated agency division. With Robert Alfeldi at the helm, the new division will offer full-service agency offering in Sydney’s premium property market. Alfeldi has previously worked for property development and investment company PAYCE and operated his own real estate agency.

Tim Mutton joins JLL’s Canberra team as head of sales and investment in the ACT, working alongside managing director, Andrew Balzanelli. The former national director of Colliers International in Canberra, Mutton has led several major transactions in the nation’s capital.
