Merger brings surprise change of CEO at Federation Centres; new CFO at Property Council; COO departs after restructure at GBCA; AIA CEO steps down; Colliers appoints national director of rural & agribusiness; valuer joins Savills in Victoria.

Following the completion of the merger between Federation Centres and Novion Property Group in June, Angus McNaughton (pictured) has taken on the role of chief executive officer of Federation Centres, replacing Steven Sewell.

McNaughton, who was managing director and CEO of Novion Property Group, will take up the position immediately.

The merger created one of Australia’s largest real estate investment trusts with over $22 billion in retail assets under management.

The Federation Centres Board thanked Steven Sewell for his vision and acknowledged his substantial contribution in the establishment and strong performance of the company since his appointment in February 2012 and in the planning for the implementation of the merger.

Steven Sewell is on the Board of the Property Council of Australia and chairman of the Shopping Centre Council of Australia.

Lesleigh Thompson has joined the Property Council of Australia as chief financial officer and company secretary. Thompson brings broad financial, change management, strategic and academic experience from the FMCG, manufacturing and tertiary education sectors to the role.

After eight years with the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA), chief operating officer Robin Mellon, is moving on to new opportunities after a restructure of the organisation.

“Robin has achieved so much over his years at the GBCA, with some exceptional achievements delivered through a variety of roles,” said Romilly Madew, GBCA chief executive. “He has made a massive contribution to the GBCA and to our industry in Australia, and leaves a lasting legacy. He has maintained our strong engagement with government and industry stakeholders by participating on working groups, judging awards, speaking at conferences and elevating our advocacy agenda.”

The Australian Institute of Architects has announced that David Parken will step down as CEO after 10 years in the position.

National President of the Institute Jon Clements acknowledged the significant contribution Parken has made to the organisation, the profession and the broader construction industry. “Under David’s leadership the Institute has experienced significant and transformative change through expanding the various member services, programs and events.”

Parken will continue in his current role at the Institute while the National Council develops a transitional plan for the appointment of a new CEO.

Rural property expert and auctioneer Shane McIntyre has been appointed to the role of national director of Rural & Agribusiness based in Colliers International’s Melbourne CBD office. McIntyre joins Colliers after a long career at Elders.

Savills Australia has recruited Damien Abela to its Victorian Valuation & Consultancy team. Abela joins Savills with several years experience in valuations.
