People on the move – 4 August 2014Carolyn McNally appointed to the position of Secretary of the NSW Department of Planning and Environment; Shammi Liang joins Savills Australia as an analyst; and Andrew Torrington joins construction firm Probuild as a group director.NSW Premier Mike Baird last week announced that Carolyn McNally has taken on the role of Secretary of the Department of Planning and Environment, having acted in the position. She previously held the position of Deputy Director General for Transport for NSW, with responsibility for transport planning and program management. She has also held senior executive roles in the infrastructure, regional development and social services sectors.At Savills, analyst Shammi Liang will work alongside national head of research Tony Crabb and Victorian head of research Glenn Lampard in the company’s Melbourne office. Fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese, Liang makes the move to Savills from property investment company Ironfish. She is currently completing a Master of Property at The University of Melbourne.Also in Melbourne, Andrew Torrington has joined Probuild as a group director. He is charged with growing the national business over the next two to three years. Torrington has about 20 years’ experience in the property, construction and development industries in Europe, the Middle East, China, India and Australia. Previously, he was CEO at the Alter family’s Pacific Group for four years. Prior to that, he was managing director and CEO at Verticon Group for five years and, before that, held several executive positions with Brookfield Multiplex for 10 years.
