People on the move – 23 February 2015Professor Ken Maher appointed to UrbanGrowth NSW board; Tony Braham joins CBRE’s Metropolitan Investment Properties team; and Savills buys into a Malaysian real estate team and appoints a new valuations team on the Sunshine Coast.Sydney architect, landscape architect and urban designer Professor Ken Maher has been appointed to the board of UrbanGrowth NSW.Maher is currently leading the design of the redevelopment of Darling Harbour. Other public projects with which he has been associated are the restoration of Luna Park, the North Sydney Olympic Pool and the National Institute of Dramatic Arts in Kensington. He is also the recently appointed President of the Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council.Tony Braham has joined CBRE as associate director of the Metropolitan Investment Properties – Capital Markets team in South Sydney.Braham has more than 25 years’ experience in sales and leasing and has worked on a variety of major residential, commercial and industrial projects in Sydney and throughout NSW. He joins the firm from LJ Hooker Bondi Junction, where he was sales manager of Residential – Commercial.Savills has expanded its Asia-Pacific business and global platform by buying into an established Malaysian real estate team that is currently trading as CBRE. The business will change names and trade under the Savills brand from 1 March 2015.The company, which is run by Christopher Boyd, Allan Soo and Paul Khong, employs close to 300 staff and has offices in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor.Boyd, who is executive chairman of the rebranded Savills Malaysia business, said of the new partnership: “We are delighted to be joining forces with Savills. We felt the time was right for us to leverage our own market knowledge with Savills know-how and client base, and we felt this could best be done through the sale of a significant stake in the business.”The merger means the business’ association with CBRE/CB Richard Ellis will be discontinued; however, the Malaysia operations will continue to service longstanding joint appointments by agreement.Domestically, Savills Sunshine Coast has announced that it will add an valuations team to its property advisory services. The new Valuations division will be led by Dale Doyle, who joins Savills from CBRE with Melanie Crane and Joshua Dougherty. The team will service the local Sunshine Coast property market in addition to surrounding regional markets such as Gympie, Maryborough, Fraser Coast and Bundaberg.
