Property giant John Gandel was presented with the highest honour in the Queen’s Birthday awards, while Lord Mayor of Melbourne Robert Doyle and Buildcorp founders Tony and Josephine Sukkar were also recognised.
John Gandel (pictured), who was formerly an Officer in the Order of Australia (AO), was made a Companion in the Order of Australia (AC) for eminent services to the community as a benefactor and supporter of the arts, and to the advancement of philanthropic giving. Gandel owns half of the southern hemisphere’s largest shopping mall, Chadstone in Melbourne, and has a large stake in Vicinity Centres.
Meanwhile, Lord Mayor of Melbourne, Robert Doyle was awarded an AC for services to the people of Melbourne. Buildcorp founders Tony and Josephine Sukkar were each recognised as a Member in the General Division (AM) for their significant service to the community with sporting, social welfare and cultural organisations, as well as their contributions to the construction sector.
CBRE has appointed Michael Heather as managing director of its Canberra business. Heather moves over from JLL, where he was head of sales and investments for the ACT. Heather, who will also head up CBRE’s capital markets team in Canberra, has been involved in notable transactions including the recent $321 million sale of Marcus Clark Street.
Savills has appointed Dorothy He to its CBD and metropolitan sales team in Victoria. With experience, cultural background and contacts throughout the Asian property investment community, Ms He will take on the role of executive Asian services.
Knight Frank has appointed Mark Silva as head of industrial in South Sydney, a new role for the company. Silva was most recently with CBRE for six years.
Jennifer Thompson has joined JLL’s team as a retail manager. Formerly with Savills, Thompson will look after a portfolio of assets include Meadowbrook Shopping Centre and the WOW suite of properties.
