People on the Move

Influential planner and entrepreneur Julie Bindon announces her retirement from Ethos Urban. Meanwhile, Bond University’s Abedian School of Architecture appoints sustainable architecture and urban design expert Dr Daniela Ottmann.

Julie Bindon (pictured left), director of Ethos Urban, has announced her retirement. Bindon was the founder, former CEO and chair of JBA, which merged with Buckley Vann in Brisbane and Planisphere in Melbourne to form Ethos Urban in 2017. Bindon was instrumental in the delivery of several game-changing Sydney developments including Central Park, World Square, Westpac Place, Deutsche Bank Place and the Wynyard Station redevelopment. Bindon was a long-term member of the Property Council’s NSW Division Council and chaired its planning committee. She was also a president of the Planning Institute of Australia.

Bond University’s Abedian School of Architecture has appointed international expert in sustainable architecture and urban design, Dr Daniela Ottmann, to the role of associate professor of architecture. Ottmann will be conducting interdisciplinary research to explore the relationship between wellbeing and architecture by identifying causes of ‘sick building syndrome’ and establishing means of designing ‘healthy buildings’. Ottmann is also finalising an Australian Urban Design Research Centre project for the Western Australian Government on sustainable and affordable timber modular housing for seniors and the disadvantaged in Fremantle.
