PDA declared for Herston Quarter
The State Government has declared the Herston Quarter a Priority Development Area to facilitate the envisaged health-orientated mixed-use redevelopment project.
Australian Unity were recently announced as the preferred developer for the project, which will see the creation of a new health and research focused precinct interconnected with the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. Aside from residential, seniors’ housing, and retail components, the precinct with provide a new 132-bed public Specialist Rehabilitation and Ambulatory Care Centre.
At the Property Council’s annual Health+Property breakfast in October, the Health Minister outlined that the demands of a growing and ageing population was a ‘challenge not a burden’ for Queensland’s public health infrastructure and the Government would require private sector knowledge and investment to meet that challenge.
The Government estimates that the project will generate 700 jobs annually across a 10 year construction period.
Public consultation will occur on a proposed development scheme in mid-2017.
